KINGSTON THUNDER BASEBALL ASSOCIATION WEATHER POLICY

IF ANY OR ALL FIELDS ARE CLOSED DUE TO FIELD CONDITIONS OR INCLEMENT WEATHER, IMFORMATION WIL BE SENT OUT

PLEASE NOTE WE WILL TRY TO SEND THE MESSAGE OUT BY 4 P.M. BUT IF OUR EXECUTIVE MEMBERS ARE WORKING SOMETIMES THIS IS NOT POSSIBLE.

RAIN

  • IF IT STARTS TO RAIN AFTER 6 IT IS UP TO THE UMPIRE TO CALL THE GAME DEPENDING ON HOW HARD IT IS RAINING.
  • IF THERE IS A SHORT BUT HEAVY RAINFALL AFTER 4 AND IT STOPS BEFORE 6, WE WILL ATTEMPT TO DETERMINE THE FIELD CONDITION IF A MEMBER CAN ATTEND THE PARK, TO DETERMINE IF THE FIELD IS PLAYABLE.
  • OFTEN THE DECISION ON WHETHER OR NOT TO CLOSE THE FIELDS IS DICTATED TO US BY THE CITY OF KINGSTON. IF THE CITY SHUTS THE FIELD (REGARDLESS OF HOW LIGHT THE RAIN APPEARS OR EVEN IF IT STOPS BY GAME-TIME) THEN THE KTBA MUST COMPLY OR RISK LOSING OUR PERMIT.

HEAT WAVE
IT HASN’T BEEN IN KTBA POLICY TO CALL GAMES DUE TO HEAT
WE DO SUGGEST EVERYONE IS PREPARED BY ENSURING THEIR CHILDREN ARE DRINKING LOTS OF WATER. HATS SHOULD BE WORN AND SUNSCREEN KEPT ON.
PARENTS, COACHES AND UMPIRES WILL HAVE TO WATCH THE KIDS TO JUDGE AND ENSURE THEY ARE HOLDING UP OKAY (IT TAKES A VILLAGE).
IT IS ESSENTIALLY UP TO PARENTS TO KNOW THEIR OWN CHILDREN, SO IF AT ANY TIME, YOU AS A PARENT FEEL YOUR CHILD IS IN DANGER, THEN DISCUSS WITH YOUR COACH IMMEDIATELY, WHO WILL THEN DISCUSS WITH THE UMPIRE AND OTHER COACH TO PULL THE CHIDLREN WHO ARE IN DANGER OUT OF THE GAME DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT.
THE KTBA EXECUTIVE WILL WATCH THE WEATHER WARNINGS AND THE KFL & A PUBLIC HEALTH SITE AND MONITOR WARNINGS AND ALERTS.
