EOBA Championship Tournament – August 12-14 - Thunder wins Silver
Thunder hosted the EOBA 13u Championship Tournament at Woodbine Park.
Thunder's bats continued to be hot and put up big numbers all weekend long.
Led by catcher Desomond Murphy Thunder's D and pitching were also solid all weekend long.
In double knockout format Thunder took on the Uxbridge Grizzlies in game 1. Thunders bats roared to a 17-1 victory behind solid pitching performances by starter Cohen Gallupe and reliever Mason Brown.
Game 2 on Saturday was against the Quinte Royals. Starter Jesse Lepp-Irving and relievers Grayson Hunt, Graham Sleeth, and Brody Salt all pitched well but Thunder came up short losing 14-7.
Game 3 on Saturday evening had Thunder taking on the Ajax Spartans. With both teams having a loss this was an elimination game. Cohen Gallupe got his 2nd start of the tournament and pitched great turning the ball over to relievers Dylan Downie and Carson Monk both also turning in solid performances.
Thunder drew the bye to the Championship round.
Sunday morning the Quinte Royals defeated the Clarington Orioles to stay undefeated leaving two teams remaining.
In the championship round Thunder would have to defeat the Royals twice and Quinte needed only to hand Thunder one more loss.
In the first game starter Elliott Smith pitched a gem. After giving up some runs in the first inning Smith settled in and put up zeros over the next 4 innings likely on his way to complete game but due to pitch count restrictions gave way to reliever Dylan Downie. As consistent as usual Downie held the Royals in check for two innings of relief and Thunder held on for a 10-8 victory forcing a final deciding game.
The Championship game was a well played game by both teams. Starter Cooper Dzierniejko pitched a brilliant and gutsy game making into the final Royals at bat in the bottom of 6 with two out hitting his pitch limit restriction of 85. Reliever Graham Sleeth came on to get the final out. Thunder came up short in their final at bat in the 7th giving the Royals an 8-4 victory. The tournament winner gained a berth to the Baseball Ontario Championship on labour day weekend in London, Ontario.
Thunder would like to congratulate the Quinte Royals team coached by Chad Crawford on their successful season so far as winners of both the regular season pennant and the EOBA Championship. We wish the Royals the best of luck representing the EOBA at the OBA Championship.

May 22nd - Thunder 13u starts EOBA play with win:
Thunder 13u kicked off their EOBA season in Clarington with a double header against the Orioles.
In game 1 starter Jesse Lepp-Irving got the win backed by solid relief appearances by Graham Sleeth and Dylan Downie. Game 1 score 13-3.
In the night cap Thunder turned in more solid pitching performances from starter Elliott Smith and relievers Brody Salt and Cohen Gallupe. Gallupe had a multi hit and multi RBI day as Thunder took the second game 7-1. A few other batters had multi hit days including short stop Cooper Dzierniejko who had multi extra base hits including a bases loaded triple. Catcher Desmond Murphy continued his hot streak at the plate with multi hit games.

June 4th & 5th - Thunder 13u win 7 in a row:
Thunder 13u won all 3 games over the weekend to increase their winning streak to 7 games in a row currently sitting undefeated at the top of the EOBA standings. Pitching victories went to Jesse Lepp-Irving, Elliott Smith and Grayson Hunt with Cooper Dzierniejko getting a save vs. the Grizzlies.

June 25th & 26th - Thunder take 3 of 4 in weekend DHs:
Thunder 13u hosted Clarington Orioles on Saturday June 25th. In game 1 Thunder rolled to a 12-5 victory behind a solid pitching performance by Cohen Gallupe who gave up no earned runs over 6 innings. Cooper Dzierniejko closed the game out in the 7th.
In game 2 Graham Sleeth got the start and pitched well and was backed by relievers Dylan Downie and Brody Salt. Thunder found themseleves down 4 runs with two out in their final at bat but rallied to tie the game and send it to extra innngs. After holding the Orioles in the top half to no runs Cooper Dzierniejko won the game in walk off fashion hitting the 2nd pitch he saw for a game winning homerun.
On Sunday the 26th Thunder hosted the Whitby Canadians. Game 1 starter Elliott Smith was in charge over 3 innings striking out 8 Whitby batters. Relievers Dylan Downie and Mason Brown pitched well working fast and holding Whitby to 5 runs while the Thunder bats were going strong scoring 15 times for a 15-5 win.
Game 2 starter Jesse Lepp-Iriving pitched well leaving the game ahead but a late Whitby rally gave them the lead and Thunder's last inning fell short of a 2nd comeback in as many days giving the Canadians a 10-8 win and giving Thunder a successful 3 win weekend. Thunder's record in EOBA play is now 10-3. They are next in action on Thursday June 30th as they host the Quinte Royals in DH action at Woodbine.

July 15th – 17th – 13u Thunder Tournament
13u have a great weekend going 3-2 & make Championship game
Game 1 – Friday – Thunder 6 Aurora King Jays 5

Game 1 starter Jesse Lepp-Irving pitched well over 3 innings leaving with the game tied at 3.
Reliever Dylan Downie pitched well and picked up the win when Thunder took a 6-5 lead in the 5th.
In the 5th a triple by Cooper Dzierniejko driving in Jesse Lepp-Irving tied the game followed by an RBI base hit by Desmond Murphy driving in Dzierniejko.
Cooper Dzierniejko then relieved Downie in the last inning to nail down the victory and pick up the save.
Cohen Gallupe had 2 hits including a double and 2 runs scored.
Grayson Hunt and Carson Monk had 2 hits apiece. Elliott Smith and Jesse Lepp-Irving each picked up a hit.

Game 2 – Saturday – Thunder 14 Ottawa Valley Highlanders 13
In game 2 mound duties went to starter Graham Sleeth and relievers Desmond Murphy, Brody Salt and Grayson Hunt.
This game saw Thunder mount a crazy comeback. Down 11-2 going into the bottom of the 3rd Thunder bats erupted for 12 runs over the remaining innings to take an exciting come from behind victory 14-13.
Reliever Grayson Hunt picked up the pitching victory.
Jesse Lepp-Irving had a 4 hit game including the game winning 2 RBI hit in the bottom of the 7th. Irving singled to right field scoring Mason Brown and Grayson Hunt to give Thunder the victory.
Cooper Dzierniejko continued his hot streak with 2 hits, 2 runs and 2 walks.
Easton Steele had 2 hits, 2 runs and a walk.
Elliott Smith had 2 hits, 1 run and a walk.
Cohen Gallupe scored 3 times with 3 hits and an HB.
Desmond Murphy had 2 hits.

Game 3 – Saturday – Thunder 7 Leaside Leafs 27
Mound duties went to starter Cohen Gallupe and Mason Brown.
Cooper Dzierniejko came up twice with the bases loaded both times blasting a triple to clear the bases picking up 6 RBI in two at bats.
Mason Brown had 2 hits including a double.
Grayson Hunt had 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
Dylan Downie and Carson Monk also picked up a hit apiece.

Game 4 – Sunday – Thunder 18 Seaway Surge 6
The winner of this game would advance to the championship game.
Starter Elliott Smith was in command from the first pitching tossing a gem over 4 innings striking out 5 and picking up the win.
Reliever Dylan Downie was stellar over the final 3 innings allowing no runs and facing only 11 batters allowing only 2 to reach base.
Thunder also came to hit belting 20 hits for 18 runs.
Cooper Dzierniejko got his 4th triple of the tournament again a bases loaded triple earning him 10 RBIs over those 4 hits, he also doubled and singled in the game.
Elliott Smith was not only fantastic on the mound but also with the bat reaching base 5 times including an RBI triple 2 base hits and 2 walks and scoring 4 runs.
Desmond Murphy had a great game and tournament behind the dish and at the plate also picked up a double and two singles.
Grayson Hunt doubled and singled. Carson Monk had 2 hits and a walk and run scored.
Brody Salt picked up two hits, 2 RBI, a walk and 3 runs scored.
Sam Gurd had a double, single, walk and 2 runs scored.
Cohen Gallupe added a double and RBI single also scoring twice.

Championship Game – Sunday – Thunder 4 Leaside Leafs 14
Mound duties went to starter Brody Salt and relievers Carson Monk and Grayson Hunt.
All 3 pitched well. Sam Gurd who played solid all weekend in the outfield tripled and scored.
Cohen Gallupe and Desmond Murphy had 2 hits apiece. Other hits went to Grayson Hunt, Cooper Dzierniejko and Jesse Lepp-Irving.
